Perhaps you’ve seen mini Raspberry Pi computing terminals, but thought that, while interesting, they generally involve more tedious electronics work and setup than you prefer. If this sounds like you, then there is good news in the form of the Raspberry UMPC Project.

This little terminal links a standard Bluetooth keyboard to a Raspberry Pi concealed inside of a 3D-printed clamshell case. A 5” monitor is connected through the GPIO via Adafruit’s Kippah board, forgoing the need for an HDMI connector sticking out the back or exotic wiring.

Of course, there is some modification needed, as the Pi will need to be stripped of some unneeded components per these instructions, and a battery pack and charger will need to be connected, however, everything else looks quite straightforward.

Adafruit DPI TFT Kippah for Raspberry Pi: A TFT panel connected to a Raspberry Pi without the use of an HDMI decoder? What is this sorcery??? It’s the DPI Kippah from Adafruit! This HAT-like* board snaps onto a Raspberry Pi B+, A+, Pi 2, Pi 3 or Zero and with a little software configuration, allows you to have what normally would go out the HDMI port come up on a nice little flat screen. * Its not technically a HAT due to the lack of an on-board EEPROM, but its the same shape as a Pi HAT and its a covering of sorts, so we call it a kippah.
